Direct Seeding

The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife’s Sydney committee was concerned about the loss of productive land through salinity. The major cause of dryland salinity is lack of native vegetation cover, particularly in the Murray Darling basin.

The committee's fundraising efforts funded the purchase of a Rodden Direct Seeding Machine for Greening Australia ACT & SE NSW.

In Spring 2003 Greening Australia completed a highly successful direct seeding campaign. An unprecedented 1300 kilometres of direct seeding took place on the NSW southern tablelands and established well over one million native trees and shrubs.

The lion's share of the work was on private land helping to connect patches of remnant vegetation, extend habitat for woodland birds, combat salinity and improve water quality.
