Yarrahapinni Wetlands National Park

Yarrahapinni Wetlands National Park was created in February 2007, when the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife purchased 137 hectares to restore an historic wetland on the Macleay River.

Much of Yarrahapinni Wetland was drained in the early 1970s to stop flooding of grazing properties along the Macleay River and to provide improved pastures.

To enable the return of the area to what was once a highly productive fishery, the Foundation works with local experts and agencies to gradually remove the flood gates and let the wetland ecosystem reestablish itself.
